After an amazing few months in the office smashing targets and having our best month EVER, we decided to celebrate by going out for a team meal. It was also the perfect opportunity to have a catch up with our very own Amy, after her 6 week charitable adventure to Costa Rica!
With a plethora of fantastic places to choose from in this gorgeous town of ours, our very own Hospitality Queen, Lisa, narrowed the choices down to six restaurants (No easy task when she had to take into account, 1 vegetarian, 1 no spices, 1 no fish or shellfish, 1 gluten free and a couple of ‘I’m watching what I eat’!)
The chosen few were .......
In true Loyd Grossman style, the team deliberated, cogitated and digested the menu’s on offer and opted for Flynn’s being a good all rounder offering a varied menu with something to suit all.
So, the decision was made, the table was booked by our ever efficient Sophie and the evening arrived. The stampede to get out of the office ensued at 5.30 and we headed to All Bar One (an office favourite) for pre-dinner drinks.
When we arrived at Flynn’s we were greeted by two lovely waitresses and a small bar. We were, meeted (!!), greeted and seated in minutes and a jug of water was popped on the table. Bread and olives were offered which proved to be a great appetiser and gave us time to study the menu whilst we waited for a late comer (not mentioning any names Bert!!).
The restaurant itself is a small intimate affair but once you’re inside and seated it doesn’t feel that way. The atmosphere was welcoming with a sort of organised, calm aura about it. It was quite quiet when we arrived and there was no music playing, a bit odd but it just meant there was nothing to interrupt our catch up conversations.
Our very own Director, Karen, opted for the Grilled Seabass along with Rhia, Amy and Bert chose the Slow-roasted Cotswold Sticky Pork Belly and Sophie had Duck. It was the Sirloin Steak (Med Rare of course) that caught Catherine’s eye and the vegetarian option of Spicy Bean Burger was Yasmin’s choice. Our mains were offered with choices of either fresh seasonal veg or salad and everybody indicated their preference. These were served ‘family style’ (for those of you not in the ‘trade’ this means served in dishes for the whole table) and we helped ourselves.
The mains were all full of flavour and did exactly what it said on the menu! The Sticky Pork was Sticky, the Spicy Bean Burger was Spicy and the Seabass grilled to perfection.
Now, to most of the table, it was time for the best bit..... DESSERT! We were handed menus and even though we were all so full, we all picked something from the delights on offer. The Marbled White and Dark Chocolate Brownie was picked by Karen, Rhia, Sophie and Yasmin with Amy going for the Rhubarb and Stem Ginger Crème Brulee, Bert the Sticky Toffee and Date Pudding and Catherine had a slice (more like SLAB) of the biggest White Chocolate Cheesecake we’ve ever seen! It was huge!!
After our pud’s were finished and the table was cleared, we sat there with buttons a’popping and sated grins on our faces.
Flynn’s Brassiere has been serving Cheltenham for many years with fresh, seasonal, local produce and creating traditional,contemporary dishes. It’s tucked away in the corner of the courtyard in Montpellier and offers good food at good prices.
We all had a lovely evening at Flynns Brasserie. The food, service and atmosphere was perfect for celebrating our achievement and if you’re looking for an evening in Cheltenham where the food does exactly what it says on the tin, then we urge you to give this place a try!
