Summer is finally here and what better time to find yourself a new job. The sun is shining, the temperature is warming up and we all feel happier and more positive. However, are we bringing this positivity to our job searches?
Recruiters and Employers place a lot of importance on first impressions – they help us decide whether you could be suited to the role you’re hoping to get!
These are the things to bear in mind when securing your next job….
We have to go all the way back to the beginning with your CV. Does your CV read well? Have you proof read for grammar/spelling mistakes? Have you tailored your CV to the role you have applied for or have you tailored it to the job role/sector you are wanting to get into?
Initial contact with the Recruiter/Employer. Are you greeting them with an upbeat, friendly voice? Are you giving detailed answers as to why you are/would be interested in the role being discussed? One word/brief answers might suggest that you’re unsure of what you want and this can make a bad first impression. Are you coming across as enthusiastic and showing a real interest?
Are you checking for updates? You don’t need to chase for updates every hour of every day but showing a keen interest in your application makes a good impression. Are you checking your emails and voicemails regularly? It’s good to make yourself contactable.
First Interview. This will be the first face to face contact with your potential new employer. Are you arriving early? Are you presentable – smartly dressed, clean and tidy? Have you come prepared? Have you brought the right attitude to the interview? Are you greeting them with a smile and firm handshake?
All of these points ideally need to be considered if you are really dedicated to securing that ideal job. You have to work hard and show the Recruiter/Employer that you WANT the opportunity and it all starts with your First Impressions!
